Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing is a great way to embrace the colder weather! ICON has plenty of sites to try out this activity – Jester Park in Polk County is a great place to get started. There are miles of groomed trails open at the park once adequate snow has fallen, with Hickory Ridge Trail being one of the best snowshoe trails in Iowa. Guests can rent snowshoes at the nature center for just $10 per day.

Birding

Not all birds head south for the winter – there are many species that remain in Iowa for the winter season. Birds are one of winter’s most colorful and lively attractions. ICON sites are the perfect place to go birding, as water sources and forests attract our feathered friends during the colder seasons. Check out The Makoke Trail: Guide to Birding in Central Iowa to find the best spots for watching this season.
